Weekly art walk coming to Britannia Village
This summer, Sea to Sky Gallery and Britannia Village will be hosting a weekly art walk based on the legendary Playa del Carmen CaminArte. Beginning June 25th, local artists and creators will set up throughout the village each Thursday from 2pm to 9pm allowing art lovers and visitors to take in the works on display at their own pace, interacting with the artists and enjoying the unique Britannia Village historic setting where Howe Sound meets the Coast Mountains. With restaurants and shopping to enjoy, the art walk will be a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of Sea to Sky Country and the artistic spirit it inspires in the people who call it home. Britannia Village profiled by CBC News
Britannia Village was profiled in a CBC News segment about the decades-long revitalization effort which has brought life to the Britannia Mine townsite some 50 years after the mine closed. Over the years, Britannia’s population, once as high as 1,200 dwindled to a few dozen hardy soul living in a place once described as the “worst source of metal pollution in North America.” Watch the video below and learn the story of how Britannia Village has helped bring the Britannia Mine townsite back to life and how the growing new community remains connected to history of the area.
Britannia Village Honoured with Heritage BC Award
On May 5th, Heritage BC announced the recipients of the 2026 Heritage BC Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in heritage conservation, education, leadership, and community impact across the province. Britannia Village and Macdonald Communities were honoured to be named a recipient of an “Outstanding Conservation Award” for the years-long project to revitalize the historic company town on the original Britannia Mine townsite. In the award citation, Heritage BC noted: “The project revitalized a historic company town by integrating commercial and residential uses, employee housing, and community amenities . . . the heritage value lies in preserving a collection of original historic buildings, maintaining key alignments and relationships while relocating some structures to new foundations . . .” Visit the Heritage BC…
