On May 5th, Heritage BC announced the recipients of the 2026 Heritage BC Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in heritage conservation, education, leadership, and community impact across the province. Britannia Village and Macdonald Communities were honoured to be named a recipient of an “Outstanding Conservation Award” for the years-long project to revitalize the historic company town on the original Britannia Mine townsite.
In the award citation, Heritage BC noted: “The project revitalized a historic company town by integrating commercial and residential uses, employee housing, and community amenities . . . the heritage value lies in preserving a collection of original historic buildings, maintaining key alignments and relationships while relocating some structures to new foundations . . .”
