Britannia Village is honoured to have been named as a “Renew” finalist in the 2026 Brownie Awards which are given annually by the Environment Journal and the Canadian Brownfields Network to recognize projects which have renewed and transformed sites which were contaminated, under-utilized, and undeveloped.

The renewal of Britannia Village began with a 5-year approval process including the creation and submission of an 1800-page detailed site investigation and risk analysis. Once approved, the project included importing 50,000 cubic metres of clean structural fill to construct a 2 metre deep “environmental cap” over the entire site.  As part of this process, a series of groundwater monitoring wells collect water samples from the underlying aquifer and the samples are regularly tested as part of the ongoing environmental reporting.

The 2026 Brownie Awards will be presented in person at the Brownie Awards Gala on November 24th, 2026, at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
